Dr. Karen B. McLean Dade (formerly Donaldson) is a noted author, educator, researcher and scholar in the fields of cross cultural and creative studies for over 25 years. She has authored such books as, Through Students’ Eyes: Combating Racism in United States Schools and Shattering the Denial: Protocols for the Classroom and Beyond. Dr. McLean Dade is currently the CEO of Multicultural International Development Corporation (MIDC), an education company that provides strategies for local, national and international curriculum development, instruction and leveraging emerging technology via new media.

MIDC was incorporated in 2002 and continues to bring its subsidiaries to the forefront of 21st century education under the direction of CEO Dr. Karen B. McLean Dade. Exemplifying cross cultural and creative education excellence, Dr. McLean Dade also contracts as an education strategist, cross cultural education speaker and workshop presenter, as well as new media artistic producer/director.
Dr. McLean Dade holds a Doctorate of Education in Cultural Diversity and Curriculum Reform (Multicultural Education) with a minor in Multi Media: University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1994). She also holds a Masters of Education in Administration and Management with a minor in Entrepreneurial Arts Curriculum Development. Dr. McLean Dade is an established performing and visual artist/director. She taught in P -12 schools in areas of fine arts education and cultural arts for many years before going into higher education. Dr. McLean Dade began her formal higher education career as Assistant Professor at Iowa State University (1994-2000). During that time she received a number of grants for her research and program development in multicultural education, such as the development of the Antiracist Education Student Teaching Exchange Program (Iowa State University, USA, University of Pretoria and University of Cape Town, South Africa; 1996 – 2000). She also received the Iowa State University Teaching Excellence (1997-98) and Research in Studies of Education (1995-96) Fellowships. In 2000, Dr. McLean Dade became a founding faculty member for the Graduate School of Education at Alliant International University (AIU; 2000-05) with campuses based throughout California and in several countries abroad. As Associate Professor, Dr. McLean Dade became the founding System-wide Executive Director for Cross Cultural Studies and CARE (Consortia for Applied Research in Education) at AIU. From 2005-09 Dr. McLean Dade served as a tenured full professor and chairperson for the Education Department at Spelman College. During her tenure at Spelman College, Dr. McLean Dade founded the Spelman Education Scholar's Team (2005). The team presented at an HBCU/ETS National Conference (2005), and the WCCI Biennial Conference in Manila, Philippines (2006). Throughout Dr. McLean Dade’s professorial experiences she has received numerous awards and recognition such as, Outstanding Service, Faculty of the Year, Outstanding Humanitarian, Unsung Hero, and so forth. Dr. McLean Dade has been interviewed by radio and television broadcast such as, National Public Radio (NPR) and Children’s Television Network, and has had scores of interviews and opinion cites in newspapers both national and abroad.
Dr. McLean Dade has presented as keynote speaker and/or invited panelist for major academic conferences and associations such as, the American Education Research Association (AERA) the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME). Congress on Law and Mental Health (Sienna, Italy 2000), World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI; Spain 2001, Australia, 2004, and the Philippines 2004 and 2006), South African Comparative Historical Education Society (SACHES; South Africa, 2000). Additionally, she has received fellowships and served as a visiting research scholar for organizations that include but are not limited to, the United States International University (Nairobi, Kenya, 2004), the National Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC; Pretoria, South Africa; 1999-2001), PACE Center/Yale University (2003), NSF (Spelman/University of Wisconsin) Social Transformation Research Project (research development sessions: Atlanta, GA/March 2006; Accra, Ghana/July-August 2006), and the Hong Kong Education Institute (Hong Kong, 2003). Dr. McLean Dade is the founder of the Comparative Research and Teaching USA - South Africa Educators Exchange Program 1996 - present), paradigm developer for Cross Cultural Studies (2000) and the Kuumba Learning Model (1997). Dr. McLean Dade served as Editor for the Journal for Cross Cultural Transformation in Education (online refereed journal), WCCI Newsletter Editor (2002-2009), and is currently the Editor/Publisher for KO Publishers.
Dr. McLean Dade is currently a NPTA (National Parent Teacher Association) Executive Board of Directors Member. Additionally, she has served as Board of Examiner (BOE) for the GAPSC (Georgia Professional Standards Commission), and BOE for the National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NCATE). Furthermore, she served as an invited member of the National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality (NCCTQ): Higher Education Council (HEC), and state HEC member for GAPSC. Dr. McLean Dade has also served on executive boards that include, but are not limited to, the National Association of Multicultural Education (NAME), and the Board of Trustees/Alliant International University.
